Sound proofing is necessary for many homes. Before you begin however, you have to know where the noise is really coming from.  If you are connected with your neighbor by a single drywall, then this could be the entry point for the noise.  By using another wall, you may disrupt the flow of noise and thus help minimize the sound from passing through.

It is also possible that the sounds are coming from gaps in between windows and doors, if you can seal this gap; it is possible that you can avoid entry of noise.  You may not need sound proofing insulation in this case.

However, if you are sure that you will need sound proofing insulation because all other means of avoiding entry of annoying noise failed.  Then you may decide if you will do the sound proofing insulation yourself.  If you cannot do it on your own but have the money to hire an insulation professional, then, this will be good for you.
